SOCIAL DREAMING: UNBLOCKING THE CREATIVE PROCESS

WORKSHOP FRIDAY 16 AUGUST to 18 AUGUST 2019

Creativity is seen as central in our professional lives. Within the creative process we are working with what is seen and unseen. “The “Unthought known.” (Bollas 1991)

We all dream and we can work with dreams  individually and collectively, the latter is called ‘Social Dreaming.’

Social dreaming was discovered to be an important way of increasing awareness of aspects of collectively held unconscious.

When a dream is considered to be more than just a mental activity, it delves into the totality of our existence, including our brains, bodies and souls.

In this up and coming workshop, a Social Dreaming Matrix is introduced as a central methodology to uncover those hidden threads.

The dreams that are offered in the Social Dreaming Matrix are worked with as belonging to the group. We will look for the collective meaning, for the community in which the dreamers dream.

‘The Social Dreaming Matrix is a place, or setting, outside the goal-orientated configurations experienced in daily life. It is a special space for the mind to be reflective, to enlarges itself through considering dreams as social phenomenon. In short, it is a unique, precious space for people to find the potential for being creative.’  [Creativity of Social Dreaming by Gordon Lawrence]

BOOKING

A workshop for Artists, Creatives and Innovators

Join Kathy Laverty TSTA, psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor in a two-day workshop and discover a psychological theory that is designed to give you insights that can be applied personally and professionally.

Uncover a method of understanding communication patterns and how to identify what blocks them both internally and relationally. This is for Creatives who are interested in psychology, both a theory of personality and a system for the improvement of personal and social functioning.

Together we will explore the work of Berne, who taught the complex theory of psychiatry, and through his radical pioneering work developed a system of analysis, which can be applied to the structure of the personality. The analysis of transactions examine both social and psychological forms of human communication, using the ego state model to diagram what happens when communication breaks down.

Held at the International Screen Academy in Sydney, Kathy will introduce psychological principles, provide practical answers that empower the creative mind to build resilience and maintain mental health, and identify tools that can be applied when Creatives experience:

  • Anxiety
  • Blocked creativity
  • Unhelpful internal dialogue
  • Repetition compulsions

This exciting workshop will provide the participant with current helpful theoretical insights that will be applied through experiential learning – theory to practice.

Learning objectives

In this workshop on Creativity and mental health you will develop a map informed by current psychological principles that empower the creative mind to build resilience, maintain and establish mental health and identify unhelpful patterns. The format of the workshop will provide participants with current, helpful theoretical insights that will be applied through experiential learning- theory to practice.

The workshop, through the theory, offers an approach to the question, ‘How do we get to be the people we are?’

‘The origins are embedded in the history of our childhoods, families, our culture and life experiences. A ‘life Script’ develops without our being aware of it, for the purposes of survival, approval and security, rather than for self-realisation. By analysing our script, we can reconsider the decisions we made when we were too little to realise what options existed.’
